How much does this cost?
Pricing is based on compressed data stored on our server
not the expanded data on your computer. Our starting price
is $8.50 per month for up to 50mb. On average you can expect
a 50% compression rate. Keep in mind, you only want to backup
your data, not the programs.
What do I need to use your service?
You need a broadband Internet connection such as Cable or
DSL.
What is my data and where is it?
Your data is word documents, accounting files, databases,
spread sheets, pictures, and anything that you enter or
that is unique to you. Our technicians will visit your site,
find where your data is being stored, and include it in
the backup.
How does it work?
We install a small program on your computer. We setup that
program and tell it what files need to be backed up and
when to back them up. Normally the backup is scheduled to
occur during the night. Once
the schedule is set, everything is automatic. We can backup
any size database / file and any amount of data. Data is
compressed, encrypted, and sent to our server where it is
stored.
What about Security?
You create an encryption key. This is a word, a phrase,
or whatever you want it to be. All data backed up to our
server will be encrypted using that key before it leaves
your computer. You are the only one that knows the key.
Without the key, the data is useless and can not be decrypted.
Don’t lose the key.
What about HIPAA?
Northern Illinois Data Safe is HIPPA compliant as we support
automated offsite data protection with on demand recovery,
while ensuring strict data security, encryption, and confidentiality.
How fast is it?
When the program encounters a file for the first time, it
compresses the file and sends it securely to our backup
server. Once a file has been compressed and sent to the
server, never again will we send that entire file to the
server. All future changes to your files will result in
only the changes within the files being sent to the server.
When the changes are received by the server, they are applied
to your backup files creating a complete up-to-date copy
of your file system. This is called Fast Bit Technology.
Only the changes to your data are compressed and sent. This
reduces the amount of data sent by anywhere from 90% to
99%.
How reliable is it?
The transmission is monitored and examined automatically.
An email is automatically sent letting you know the backup
was successful or if there were any errors. Plus, you have
access to the daily log of what was backed up and if there
were any errors. Most errors occur from a document being
left open.

data at any time. We can also create a CD for you. Or you
can bring in your computer and we can repair / replace it
and reload the data for you.
